Mogadishu, (insidesomalia.org)-Somali forces and their Ethiopian allies have withdrawn from Mogadishu's main market of Bakaraha after a dawn military search operation into the volatile market.

The incursion into Bakaraha market came after a heavy fighting which rocked areas around the market yesterday afternoon.

Somalia's transitional government alleges that the market is a stronghold for Islamic insurgents who launch daily deadly against the government and its unpopular military backers, the Ethiopian forces.

However businessmen and the tribal elders of Hawiye clan who are predominant in the capital deny the accusation that the market is a stronghold for insurgents.

There are reports saying that during the raid to Bakara Market by the Ethiopian forces and their Somali allies, looting of properties by the same forces.

The casualty of yesterday's fighting is now confirmed to be seven persons including four police officers.

Insurgents opposing the government chased forces of the Somali government from two key junctions near Bakara market though they came back to their positions this morning.
